Rearview — Two Sentence Horror

Rearview

I adjusted the rearview mirror and saw a child sitting in the back seat.

When I turned around the seat was empty, but the mirror showed him climbing into the front.

WHY THIS ONE WORKS

Mirror horror depends on a simple contract: the reflection should obey. The second sentence breaks that contract.

It follows the house rule: exactly two sentences, with the turn doing more than adding a monster. It changes the reader’s interpretation of the setup.

Baby Monitor

My wife keeps complaining that our baby monitor wakes her whenever I come home from the night shift.

The Hallway

I heard my son running down the hallway and yelled that he was supposed to be asleep.

Wrong Child

The police found my missing son after six years, and the DNA test says he is unquestionably mine.

The Nursery

We removed every toy from our dead son’s room before putting the house on the market.
