The nurse said the patient in Bed 6 had died before my shift began.

At 3 a.m. the call button lit up and the screen displayed my name.

Clinical certainty makes the impossible detail hit harder: the setting is built to measure reality, and still cannot explain it.

It follows the house rule: exactly two sentences, with the turn doing more than adding a monster. It changes the reader’s interpretation of the setup.
